Mercury Records advertises the "We Shall Overcome" record from the SNCC Freedom Singers. The Freedom Singers formed after they were inspired by the Nashville Sit-In movement and how the protesters used song in their nonviolent actions. They recorded their album in 1963, performed at the March on Washington, and at the Newport Folk Festival with Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and Peter, Paul and Mary. The group's music featured hymns and spirituals that were used in protest sand continued to be taught at places like the First Baptist Church, Capitol Hill.
